A Step in the Right Direction: Our Move to Columbus, Ohio

Hello hello from Columbus, Ohio!

Oh yes, you did read that right, we actually moved to Ohio, the one place I never saw myself living as a former Michigander. We announced the big news a couple weeks ago on instagram and facebook, packed up our entire lives and moved the 1,052 miles from our little house in Dallas, Texas to our new townhouse right outside of Columbus, Ohio. Because there have been so many life changing events that have happened over the last month, let me just take you back and explain it all step by step.

First off, in early August, my (now) fiance informed me that his job was making some huge adjustments in the restructuring of his selling department, but at the time I had no clue it was going to mean we would be moving across the country again. Let me remind you all that they relocated us down to DFW in the fall of 2018 after we both graduated. Fast forward to the end of August when we officially got the news that he had been promoted to regional account manager in, you guessed it, the midwest. This meant we had only a short time frame to find a house and move our lives yet again (obviously it all worked out in the end but MAN was I stressing!).

Come September, we celebrated my birthday on the 2nd amongst the craziness of finding a place to live and me a new job, but just wait, there’s more! My car was also stolen from our front yard the day before we left for Nantucket for Labor Day Weekend. I had NEVER been through something like that, and was an absolute wreck. Thank the Lord for insurance though because they started taking care of everything for us while we were away on our trip where we (finally) got engaged!!! I’ll give y’all a detailed post on the proposal later on, but it was everything I’d ever dreamed of and more!

The rest of the month was spent preparing for the move and searching endlessly for a house that was similar to what we were living in, but when we realized we were running out of time, we settled on a townhouse outside of the city. Now that we are settling in, I do feel like it was a good decision even though we gave up a few of the luxuries we were used to with having a house.

The beginning of October felt like a blur because it consisted of packing up all of our belongings and saying the last few goodbyes to friends and coworkers. Exactly one week before our move, and exactly one month to the day from when my car was taken, Jacob woke up early for work to find that his truck had been stolen as well. And to answer your questions, YES we always lock our vehicles and NO we did not live in a super sketchy area. The police explained that car theft had been on the rise since COVID started and we both drove vehicles that were highly sought after in the eyes of thieves. At the time, it felt like our world was caving in on us because we were already stressed enough with the move and my car missing, and now we had to rethink how we were going to get to Columbus. After many prayers and several deep breaths, we came up with a plan that really worked out well if you ask me! Jacob’s dad flew down to help us get packed up and the two guys drove the moving truck up, while I flew into Michigan with Isla the following day and drove the 3.5 hours down to Columbus with my brother who had already planned on helping us move in.

So there you have it! All of the craziness that has happened over the last few months (really this whole year though… #2020 amiright?)! Jacob, Isla and I are loving our new home and have started exploring this neighborhood and the downtown area. While we adjust to our new normal, I decided to get myself back into writing and blogging. I started this blog as a creative outlet, but as you all can probably relate, life just kept getting in the way. I have more than enough time right now though while I hunt for jobs, so expect to see lots of posts coming your way! If you have any requests, feel free to reach out, but I’ve already started putting together a list of requests I received from insta which include details and photos from the proposal (of course), wedding planning updates, home tour/decor details, fall baking recipes, fall outfit details, and one I’m super excited to write about, my faith journey!

I’ll catch you all here next week, have a wonderful weekend! xo
