Early morning trips to farmer’s markets are quite possibly the best way to start the day!
From a young age, I was taught the benefits of buying local. Not only are you supporting local farmers and growers, but you’re buying products that are in season. The farmer’s market in my hometown is nothing short of amazing, but I think it’s pretty cool that there’s one at the university I attend! Every Wednesday morning from 10:00am to 1:00pm, tents are set up, produce is set out and live music begins to play.
My favorite things to buy from farmer’s markets are, of course, fresh fruit and veggies, but I can also never leave without a small bouquet of flowers. It’s finally Dahlia season and I couldn’t be more excited! They’re definitely one of my favorite flowers. Blueberries, peaches and sweet corn are another few favorites of mine and are great during this time of year in Michigan. At the GVSU farmer’s market, there are people that also make their own breads, jams, honey and salsa. After sampling a few of them, I was hooked. I’ll definitely be going back next week for some more!
