Why I Chose Phi Mu

The title of this post really should be “why I chose (and will continue to choose) Phi Mu,” because my entire college experience would have been so different without the amazing women who have become some of my best friends.

When I went through sorority recruitment during my sophomore year of college at GVSU, I was so nervous that I wouldn’t end up in the house that was meant for me. My goal was to find a group of women who would push me to be my best self. A place that I knew I could run to and always feel safe. And for me, that was Phi Mu. I felt it during all of the rounds of recruitment, and honestly, I still feel giddy when I walk through those doors now.

Greek Life is a hard thing to explain to people who aren’t apart of it because it’s an experience like no other. We really do make such a huge impact on our community and people across the nation, and I’m so proud to be apart of a sorority that strives to do even more.

Some of you may know that the past few months haven’t been easy for me. I have had to conquer some pretty tough and scary obstacles, but the entire time I was going through them, I had hundreds of girls beside me. From my big, Cassie, bringing me treats to lift my spirits from time to time, to one of my best friends, Torie, taking my mind off of everything while we were traveling abroad in May, and even to my littles, Cat and Erica, who are always making me want to be the best role model I can be even during the hard times. Each and every one of these wonderful women has a special place in my heart, and now we have forty-some new members that I can’t wait to get to know!

Ugh… I could just go on and on, but I’ll leave you all with this; Someday whether you’re in Greek Life now, thinking about rushing in the future, or not ever planning to, I hope you all find that group of girls who will drop anything to help you and support you 100%, because for me that will always be Phi Mu.

xoxo
